Its one of the hardest parts about advertising your site, how much should you pay for a link?  Here’s an interesting find, a script that estimates the value of a link on any website you type in.  It bases the valuation on a number of factors.  Like most estimators, there are plenty of arguments against using something like this for serious valuation.  Always take into account the niche and the benefits you expect to receive from the link.

The people behind <a href=”http://dnexperiment.com” target=”_blank”>DNexperiment.com</a> have a new take on top list link advertising.  They are selling the top link on their page and each time it sells the link that used to be the top link drops into second place.  The more links that sell, the farther down the screen your link falls.  Also, each time the link sells the price of the next link goes up by twenty-five cents.  A very neat idea.  They have plans to market the site and promote it which will increase the value of having your link there, so there is reason to buy a link early on.

The second part of their “experiment” is what they are doing with the money.  The money is being used to buy more domain names.  A portfolio will be kept made up of the domain names that have been bought with proceeds from the <a href=”http://dnexperiment.com” target=”_blank”>DNexperiment project</a>.  This will give an interesting read on the project as a whole.  Will the ads sell good enough to support the buying of domians, will the domains chosen be good enough to see a return on the investment made, or will both sides of the project pay off?  Its going to be an interesting watch.

Having the greatest website in the world is of no use if you have no traffic going to it. There are many ways to get traffic and one of those is by submitting to directories.

A certain amount of traffic comes from people who have gone to directories looking for sites from a certain category. The only way for these people to end up as visitors to your site is by being listed in those directories.

There are two main kind of directories, general and niche.

General directories are directories that list links to almost any kind of website. They are usually broken up by category but contain links to sites covering everything from knitting to space travel.

Niche directories are more focused. You may find a niche directory that contains links that only go to websites that have something to do with automobile racing, French cooking, or television repair.

While general directories, by their nature may get more traffic as they have more potential viewers seeing them, niche directories may get more converting traffic as everyone that is going there has a common interest regarding the links they are seeing.

One type of directory is not more important than the other, submit you site to both and capitalize on the traffic they send to you.
